Toy Op-ed Reflection

For a long time, we have had problems between toys and gender specific toys that are "targeted" to a certain gender. There are a lot of people who think that there needs to be a change about how people think that boys should be using cars and figurines as toys to play with while girls should use dolls and glittery pink things. recently this has been changing a little bit with some companies starting to create figurines that show powerful female idols or are made in whats typically considered to be a girls color, trying to be more inclusive of different genders in their product. something that hasn't changed to much however, in advertisements, products will still show only a certain gender using the product, such as for things like monster truck commercials you will still see only boys using them, while products for things like "pillow pets" and "hatchimals" and such you will only see girls. many people argue that this needs to be changed and that their kids should be able to make choices they want without facing the social pressures of peers. Another part of the problem is parents being open to whatever their child wants. a lot of parents would do anything for their kids but there are some who try to encourage their kids to get more "gender appropriate" toys so that they don't face possible bullying, the thing is, children need to be able to learn to make their own decisions in life, especially about the things that they like and want to enjoy.
