Blog Election Issue: Education/Testing in Public Schools

Education

The education system in Texas and even in the United States, has many flaws to the way it works, how students are taught in public and private schools, and even down to what material is covered in lessons and in testing. One of the major ongoing problems in education currently in Texas is testing. Specifically, Texas public school testing has come into question, as it has in many other states. Parents are wondering and asking why students have to be tested, sometimes twice, to prove the knowledge of their subject areas, when their performance in class and outside of class should indicate their mastery of each of their subjects. Because of the high emphasis, importance, and pressure placed on testing, claims have been made that teachers are being forced to teach according to the tests, rather than teaching more important content and lessons, thereby also neglecting it. Testing also takes up 28 to 45 school days each year, which could be used for teaching more lessons that are more important to students, rather than testing.

The education system is and has been an ongoing issue in Texas for years and even though it doesn't seem as such a prominent issue, such as immigration policies or gun control, it is still something that is affecting students in schools all over Texas, and even in the United States and it is a very important issue that needs to be taken care of because education as a whole is important to not only the individuals of our state and country, but our state and country as a whole. The only way to further improve the future of the education in our state and country, is to solve the problems that persist in every school, all over our state and country.
