Blog Election Issue

Climate change is a topic that I personally feel like, for most of the public, is forgotten while choosing one's political views or which candidate you most agree with (unless you are an environmentalist). Expressing how you feel the environment should be understood and protected is crucial to the future of one's desired world.

Climate change occurs due to the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. Normally, light enters through the atmosphere and bounces of the ground back into space. However, the increase of carbon dioxide into the air has hindered this process and slowed it down. It is also scientifically proven that climate change has increased because of human pollution and oil and gas companies. Global warming is also making a lot of ice sheets melt which exposes diseases from hundreds and thousands of years ago, that we thought were extinct.

The presentation also taught me why Hurricane Harvey produced so much rain water (therefore increasing devastation). The waters in the Gulf of Mexico were so warm due to climate change and oil and gas industries. Meteorologists and scientists believe Harvey was "supercharged" because of this warm water. If we had known that the warm water was to increase the amount of rain in the hurricane, this information could have been spread earlier to residents in Houston which would hopefully decrease the amount of deaths due to the unexpected long length of the hurricane.

Beto O'Rourke and Ted Cruz have varying views on the climate change issue. Beto (and more liberal political views) believe that it is the governments job to pay close attention to climate change and work with green house organizations to prevent pollution. He claims "man made climate change is a fact". He is pro - environment, pro - renewable - energy and pro - gas and oil company regulation and emissions. 88% of liberals believe humans are responsible for climate change and Beto votes for the well-being of the environment 95% to 100% of the time.

On the other hand, Cruz (and more conservative political views) believes that climate change is a natural part of this world and the climate has been changing since the beginning of time and will continue to change until the end of time. He considers the belief of climate change a religion, not scientific fact. He says climate change is not humans fault. He is pro-oil and anti - environment as are 33% of conservatives. In conclusion, if Cruz gets re-elected, oil and gas companies will thrive while and the condition of the environment will decrease (opposite for Beto).

Last blog, we discussed how each category effects one's political views. Personally, I believe climate change should play a large part of what your political views are because our world and environment should exist longer than any laws.
