Blog Election Issue
As midterm elections near, multiple different topics are being put out on the table. People choose their favorite candidate based on their views of anything from climate change to healthcare. Personally, one of the factors that is most important to me is Women’s Rights and Abortion.
The two candidates, obviously finding themselves on opposing sides of the political spectrum, have extremely different views on the situation. Beto O’Rourke, who has more liberal beliefs, sides with the Pro Choice side of the movement, believing that women should have a choice about what to do if they find themselves in an unwanted pregnancy, and that if a woman doesn't want to be a mother, she shouldn’t have to.
On the other side of the election, Ted Cruz, who has more traditional republican beliefs, sides with the Pro Life movement. Cruz’s argument is that it is cruel to kill a person, especially a child, who doesn’t get a chance to live. He also believes that the only time this procedure should ever take place is if it is critical for the women’s health.
I’m not an extremely politically involved person, but the topics that I am involved in are very important to me. I believe that women should be able to choose what they do with their bodies, not only for her sake, but her potential child’s as well. After all, if we as people don’t have the ability to make decisions for ourselves, what do we have?
