Blog On Issues
Public transportation is becoming a larger and larger within Houston especially since it is a big city that can’t seem to stop growing. Due to the population of the city continuing to increase, traffic is becoming a dreadful nightmare. Cars constantly packed bumper to bumper on the highway almost all day long. In addition to this the so called “Metro” in Houston is very limited and it takes forever to get anywhere in a bus because they are constatnly late. The Metro system, for the most part, really only runs from downtown to the medical distrcit, there are no efforts (as far as I know) to expand this system to a reach a great distance. For example sugar land to the downtown area. The city itself is very spread out so in my mind this seems very logical, and in hopes that people would actually use this hypothetical Metro the city might actally benefit with loss of traffic and an increased use in public transportation. When I lived in Chicago this was not the issue, the “L” (which was the name of the CTA system) was extremly helpful. It could be riden from Oak Park, IL, a suburb, to downtown Chicago in 20 minutes on a good day. That’s not the same case here in Houston, the Metro system here is hardly recognizable being that it only really exists in two places, downtown and the Medical District.
