Blog Election Issue- Education/ Funding of Public Schools in Texas

Education has been an important issue for a long time.  In Texas, there are many public schools that do not have enough funding to support the teachers. The Texas Education Agency estimates that there will be a 3.5 billion dollar decline in funding for public schools in the next couple of years.  Public schools in Texas receive funding two different ways. Local property taxes and revenue from the state. The issue is from the reduction of revenue from the state. The funding has been decreased due to our politicians and state officials reducing the budget and funding for our schools. This affects the students as many schools are already cutting visual and performing arts classes as they do not have enough funding to pay for teachers and the classes.  This also academically affects students in lower income areas as they do not have the necessary resources provided to them by the school such as textbooks. Many schools use textbooks with outdated information and can not afford to get newer books. This issue is happening in many lower-income neighborhoods in Houston and many other cities across Texas and further action need to be taken by our officials to fund our schools.
