Immigration Crisis
America is built off of immigration, the first time people immigrated into America was 1492 when Christopher Columbus "discovered" the Americas. He slaughtered and imprisoned a bunch of Native Americans and went right back to Spain. One of the things he found in the Americas was the very valuable metal gold. After his discovery, thousands of immigrants poured into the Americas and everything escalated from there. A lot of these people didn't actually want to come to America, they either left Europe because of religious persecution because they were exiled to there or because of some other reason. Very little came to America because they wanted to, and the reason for that was due to the fact that America was pretty ruthless. The weather was awful, Native Americans were everywhere trying to kill everyone, and sometimes winter would stay a little extra, starving those who ran out of food.
In the 1920s, the United States was an economic powerhouse. The market was booming, the stocks were up, and everything was great. However, post World War I Europe was not doing so well. Germany had been left ruined and the Versailles agreement put unnecessary restrictions on their freedom, thus sending their country into economic disparity. So from 1880 to 1920, 25 million immigrants poured into the United States, and they came from mostly Europe and Eastern Asia. This time sparked a lot of racism and different ideas on the immigrants, and most of those ideas still exist today about modern immigrants.
Today most American immigrants come from Mexico, the Middle East, and Eastern Asia, and a big problem with some of those immigrants is when they illegally immigrate into the U.S. A lot of people usually think that illegal immigrants sneak past the borders, but in reality, that's only a small number of immigrants. The largest amount of illegal immigrants is actually the ones who come here legally and then overstay a visa or permit. Then there's the issue of refugees. A majority of refugees that enter the United States are from The Middle East, but some also come from countries in Central America. Recently, the United States has put up several restrictions on immigration and refugees, making it hard for people to enter the country. This shouldn't be happening. Of course, the United States should have a limit for refugees and immigrants, but there shouldn't be hardcore restrictions. America is the place of freedom and opportunities, a place that welcomes refugees and immigrants into itself, and not a place where those things aren't allowed.
