Public Transportation in Houston
For a long time, Houston has been a car dependent city that lacks any other method of transportation. Although parts of Houston don't have places that are all walking distance from each other, some of the most populated parts of the city do: downtown, the medical center, and the galleria area all have buildings and other things that are all walking distance however out of all of these locations, exists a single bike lane in downtown on Lamar Street along with sidewalks poor in quality. Other than walking and bilking, we have the metro buses and metro rail system however the metro rail system is fairly new and before it existed, Houston was the biggest city in America without a rail system. Despite the current situation, things are definitely getting better, one of the most recent re-designs was for all 80 of the metro bus routes. Once the re-design was complete, Houston metro ended up getting better feedback than before. On top of that, the city of Houston has initiated a $215 million bike trail project that will add over 150 miles of trails in Houston.
