Toy Op-ed Reflection IHSS -JM
Toys in the United States have been marketed using gender for decades, this has has been a common and preferred strategy by most toy companies. Recently, there have been complaints about most toys that are advertised, are sexist because of their techniques that are used in order to get one or another genders attention. People that seek equality for these commercials and toys typically protest this idea, forcing companies to turn towards something equal. Some say that there is a depletion in the industry for toys that are not unisex, but some people think otherwise. On the articles that we were provided, you can see multiple instances of people talking (in the comments of the articles) about how the rates of toys that are specific to a gender, are not declining in production at all. In fact, they are either staying the same at a steady level, or they're increasing. In my opinon, I do not see this whole entire toy phenomenon as a legitimate problem. I have another opinion talking about how the complaints of these toys are most likely a handful of customers. And it is not the vast majority that purchase these toys for their children, do not complain. In the end, I do not see that there is any issue with marketing to a specific gender, or sex.
