My political and socio-political views are definitely influenced by the categories that were mentioned, being level of education, family income, region of the U.S, racial group, religion and views of the bible, and Sex. I feel like I’m especially influenced by my views on the bible, which have a lot to do with social issues which I care about. First on the list, is level of education. Although my own level of education isn’t very high yet, I plan on going to college and graduate school, and my parents both have masters degrees. College is generally a very liberal place, and although I’m already liberal I feel like there is a chance I become more liberal at whatever college I go to. I come from an upper-class family, with both my parents being professors at Rice University where they make a pretty good income. My views are definitely influenced by theirs, and theirs have been influenced even a little bit by their workplace. Although I don’t feel as if my families level of income directly influences my political beliefs, I think that the way in which that income is brought in influences beliefs. As for the region of the U.S in which I live it, I live in a mostly liberal city in a conservative state. I don’t think that where I live influences my political beliefs very much, but it is definitely interesting to see how a liberal city works inside of a conservative state. As for my racial group, I’m white. White men are generally pretty conservative, with only 37% of them identifying or leaning towards the democratic party (“1. Trends in Party Affiliation among Demographic Groups | Pew Research Center”). So obviously, my racial group doesn’t affect my political beliefs because I go against the trend that my racial group goes towards. For religion and views of the bible however, I’m definitely influenced. I’m not religious at all, and oppose many of the views that people who are religious believe in. For example, I’m pro-choice, for birth control, for gay rights, and for other socially progressive views, which many people who are tied to religion oppose. As for the final thing, my sex, I don’t think I’m at all influenced by that. I try to believe in things that are for what I believe is the betterment of all people, not matter their race, gender, or income.
