Political Views
I am an upper middle class, white, universalist, woman living in a southern city.
Due to coming from fairly economically well off parents who both have an upper level liberal arts education, my view has been shaped by their lessons, as well as my experience in the socio economic group I’m in. My parents both have educated opinions on many topics, and so I’ve been often taught to analyze and figure things out for myself, as well as being taught to trust science. Since I’m zoned to fairly good public schools, as well as now going to a private school provided to me through the use of lots of money, I am currently being educated fairly well on topics such as global warming and evolution and other theories of knowledge that shape my views on topics such as global warming. Due to having a good education, and being aware of the risks and affects of climate change and other environmental issues like deforestation and extinction, I would be more likely to want higher restrictions on things that interfere with the earth.
The more directly socio economic affect on my views would likely be how I view issues such as taxation, health care, welfare, and issues of income gaps. Since none of the issues concerned with poverty strongly concern me, or impact my life, and are unlikely to do so in the future, I theoretically should be disposed to not care for those things, and take a more conservative/ libertarian view when it comes to the economic interference of the government in personal wealth. However, I have seen these issues affect my peers and friends in the past, and currently, so I am more sympathetic than I might otherwise be.
Being white, I have a very small understanding of the plights of people of color, and ethnic minorities, giving me a limited understanding of how marginalized groups face racism in their everyday lives. Since those issues don’t effect me, I am less likely to be concerned with representation of racial minorities in the government, lean towards stronger borders and less immigration.
However, this is also where the region ties in. Living in Texas, I am located closer to the border, and I’m more exposed to latinos and people of hispanic descent. Since I am also living in the city, which is more culturally and ethnically diverse compared to the country. Exposure to many different types of people and minority groups, I am more likely to be accepting and tolerant of alternative lifestyles.
Due to me being female, I have more strong opinions on issues such as reproductive rights, women’s representation in the government, and laws around sexual assault and domestic violence, since these things impact my life. I’m much more likely to want legislation that would give me control of my body, such as things like Roe Vs. Wade
Religion wise, since I am not particularly devoted to any, and take a more agnostic view, I am disposed to take a view that has scientific support for it.
