Where Voting Matters

Voting is a huge deal in America. Choosing one person who YOU think will do his/her best for your community is a BIG DEAL. Unfortunately America is a bit of a joke when it comes to voting. Does anyone else remember when a chunk of the population voted for a dead gorilla to be our president? Currently our Country is about to go threw the voting process on November 6. Especially for Texas we have the election for our state senate. Cruz (republican) Vs. Beto (demarcate). A close race indeed, now let me tell you about a very special system america has.
Electoral College. Electoral College is made up of 538 electors who cast votes to decide the President and Vice - President of the United States of America. The candidate who receives a majority of electoral votes (270) wins the Presidency. The number 538 is the sum of the nation’s 435 Representatives, 100 Senators, and 3 electors given to the District of Columbia. In Nebraska and Maine, electoral votes are assigned by proportional representation, meaning that the top vote-getter in those states wins two electoral votes (for the two Senators) while the remaining electoral votes are allocated congressional district by congressional district. These rules make it possible for both candidates to receive electoral votes from Nebraska and Maine, unlike the winner-take-all system in the other 48 states.
Lets use the past election for example, Trump (republican) vs Hilary (demarcate), so for the electoral vote Trump had 304 while Hilary had 227. For the popular vote Hilary had 65,844,610 and Trump had 62,979,636, which is a 2,864,974 difference. So at the end of the 2016 election who won? The popular vote or the Electoral College vote? The Electoral College! Trump won through the electoral vote! Which for me is 100% CRAZY! I honestly makes me feel like my vote doesn't matter just because my state is republican. I hate the electoral college with a passion, notice I used the word hate which is a very (VERY) strong word.
Now how does this relate to our current situation for the upcoming vote on November 6th? Well honestly in my perspective I think Cruz is going to win, due to our state being republican and the fact that people under the age 25 don't vote so we are basically screwed. I want Beto to win but I honestly believe that due to our state being a republican state my vote basically means nothing (this is saying IF I could vote). Look at Hilary she should have won. America clearly wanted her to win but due to the STUPID electoral vote she didn't and that is why I believe Cruz will win and continue to be our senate. Doesn't mean I won't still vote but at least I won't be crushed when Beto doesn't win.
