My Argument - Why Every Vote Matters
My argument is that every vote matters because, as shown in the article, a lot of the winners of these elections from all the way back in 1829 to now, in 2018, were decided by a difference of only one vote. So, if that one person or two people who didn't vote did vote, they wouldn't think it, but it would have made a lot of a bigger difference in who would've won and who would've lost. My argument also goes hand in hand with how people now think that their vote doesn't really matter because it's in a batch with many other people, ultimately ending up in them not voting at all. But this article shows that they could be that person that would turn around the elections, with just single vote they casted, they would make a big difference, which is really a way that they could feel like their vote matters, and they could go out and vote.
Some examples from this article to support my argument are: In 2016, a Vermont state Senate Democratic primary was determined by a single vote out of more than 7,400 cast; and also in 2016, a Vermont state House seat was determined by one vote out of 2,000. Here's another thing, this was a rematch, and when they first faced each other in 2010, the race was also decided by one vote, going in the other direction. Again in 2016, a Wyoming state House GOP primary was decided by just one vote, 583 to 582, and lastly, going to 2006, a Democratic primary for an Alaska state House seat was decided by a coin toss to break a tie, and the winner, Bryce Edgmon, is still currently the speaker for the Alaska House.
To end my thoughts on this/my argument and/or perspective is that going off of my argument a little, I don't believe that, even though I think every vote matters, that everyone has to vote right now, or even go to the point of making it mandatory to vote, because it's peoples choice. It's their freedom and I personally feel like if they don't believe that their vote will make a difference, they don't have to vote if they don't want or don't feel like they have/want to. There are different perspectives to whether every vote matters or not and I respect whatever perspective and/or views anyone has about it. This is just how I feel about this topic and I feel like every vote does matter, all in their own ways.
