Trump and Trade and Zombies
In short, this article covers the topics of the old Republican ideologies, the Trump administration and international economic policies. All of these topics are throughout the article related back to economics. The article starts off by talking about these so called zombie ideas that come from Republicans, ideas that should’ve died but for one reason or another haven’t quite yet done so. These ideas for the most part talk about how the rich paying more taxes is actually a “recipe for disaster.” Another thing that enforced these zombie ideas was when President Trump appointed Larry Kudlow to the head of the National Economic Council. However, the most important part of the article is near the end when it begins to touch on the choices President Trump made in choosing the people he hired who seem to have many conflicts on the international economic policies. This has begun to create many debates within the administration.
This article undoubtedly relates to economics in many senses. It touches on the choices President Trump has made and how those choices seem to be affecting the zombie ideas which are now being reinforced by people he has chosen. He almost seems unaware of the conflicts (in relation to economics) within his own administration. Not only that but there is some concern to how President Trump approaches economics, he believes in some of these same ideas, that the rich shouldn’t pay more and things should remain the way they are. Furthermore, he believes in this win or lose system. He believes that countries with trade surpluses win and those with trade deficits lose. and by doing all of this, he affects a lot. He not only shifts what’s happening in the present but also the future. He seems unaware that what he’s doing now will affect many in the future yet to come.
