Sharing Economy Idea - Catherine Hudson
Have you ever had the impulse to do something exciting, be adventurous, such as traveling the world by sailboat! Unfortunately the cost does not often make this as easy as the thought may seem and by the time you go through the tedious procedures of finding, buying and insuring a sailboat, your initial idea may not even seem so great anymore but your still stuck with a brand new boat that you never use but continue to pay for maintenance. My sharing economy idea would be to create an app that allows people to rent already-insured and no-need-for-maintenance sailboats on demand with an approved sailor for those without a license! This would facilitate the needs of those who just want to try out sailing but don’t have the money for a nice boat or want to deal with the long-term commitments of owning a big boat. This app would function similarly to Airbnb. Some people could loan out their boats for money, others could rent the boats, saving a lot of money by not buying an expensive boat and the effort of maintaining it. Like Airbnb, my app would act as an interface between the dealing parties (the people who own the boats and the people who rent the boats) and gains service fees from both the ends with every booking. For example, this app would collect about 8% of guest services fee and 4% host service fee. The people with the boats will post a page with a picture, description, cost, availability and any other necessary information about their boat so the people searching to buy a book will be well informed. The app’s company would be in charge of background checking all those searching to sell to ensure their legitimacy and the state of their boat. Some information on the renter-outer will also be included to build trust in this online sharing economy. Ultimately, this app will allow you to follow your craziest dreams more easily!
