Disabilities in the United States
Those with disabilities are given the same rights as the rest of us when it comes to legal and human rights issues. However, we have not made safer and more accessible solutions for them regarding daily activities. There are now laws in place to protect those who have a disability specifically in the workforce. The major law regarding civil rights in regards to those who have a disability is the ADA. This is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It guarantees equal opportunity for all individuals whether it be in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications.
While we have all these laws and guidelines in place it does not truly guarantee full respect and accessibility to these people. All public forms of transportation are required to provide for everyone regardless of race, sexuality, gender, and disabilities. However, this does not mean they are treated in the same way as everyone else or have the best accommodations. For example, there are many cases where issues have occurred between flight attendant and customer because the customer was in a wheelchair.
This is an issue that we are still working on today in the U.S.
