For my project (public transportation in Houston) I am not quite sure how I can directly affect the issue especially as a high school student. My current plan is to contact the mayor and some of his employees to see what Houston is currently doing to help support the issue. I want to look into the issues future by seeing what the city is planning to do to minimize the problem. I also however want to do a study of my own. You had mentioned this to me in class about how I could compare the different modes of transportation that Houston offers. For example, I pick a starting point, (A) and an ending point (B) and I use Houston’s public transportation, a car and walk to see which method gets me there the fastest. This is really not only to see which is most practical in terms of mode of transportation but also to see how effective and efficient Houston’s own public transportation. If possible, I would like to show this small study to the some official of the city if granted the opportunity to do so and if not then it will simply be a small scale study out of my own personal interest. In doing this study I hope to do some trials in different areas of the city so that I can see how reliable the public transit is in different neighborhoods across the city. These different areas will most likely be Montrose, the medical district, Bellaire and the East End so that my trials aren’t specified to the inner cities transit as it is more effective closer to the heart of the city. With this information I can compare and contrast data to get a glimpse at how effective Houston’s transit is from a personal experience.
