Venezuela civil rights blog

Venezuela has so much oil that it should be one of the richest countries but unfortunately, due to communism, there are many people starving, revolting, and dying. This is all thanks to the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro. He is said to be widely condemned for overseeing one of the worst human rights crises in the country’s history. Venezuelan citizens are trying their best to cope with major food shortages, as well as hyperinflation. Studies show that almost seventy five percent of venezuelans are suffering from weight loss and unemployment. These statistics are supposed to go up by thirty two percent by the year 2022. If Maduro isn’t stopped and the economic policies of the country not changed, many people are expected to starve, be without jobs, and unfortunately die.  Amnesty International said the crisis in the South American nation had reached it’s breaking point. Venezuela is a perfect example of why communism does not work. There is another person that the United States very much approves of that is trying to step in and be elected as the new Venezuelan president who just might be able to start fixing this broken country. This Venezuelan opposition leader, Juan Guaido, declared himself the country’s interim president during nationwide protests in the week of January 23, 2019. His goal is to take away the power being abused by Nicolas Maduro. The United States has declared its support for Juan Guaido. Maduro responded to this by announcing a break in diplomatic relations with Washington. Guaidó, the 35-year-old recently elected head of Venezuela's National Assembly, took the oath of office on an outdoor podium in Caracas, flanked by yellow, blue and red Venezuelan flags. He raised his right hand as a crowd erupted in cheers. He promised to serve as interim leader and call for general elections.
