Corpus Christi is Better Than Houston!? At Exporting Crude Oil :)

Texas has always been economically known as an energy provider. We provide millions of barrels of oil to the rest of the world, but now Corpus Christi is expanding their port to make us an even more effective exporter. Houston is infamous for it’s port, but now it may have some competition. Corpus Christi has been hauling in 1,100 foot ships for the past few years but they have come across many difficulties. Many of these ships have difficult times navigating through the narrow channels, and the cargoes can rarely be fully filled. As the cargo ships are loaded with oil, they sink lower and lower due to the weight they gain. Due to the depth of the channel, if the ship gets too heavily loaded, they can’t leave the ports. Soon though, this will no longer be the case. They just got approved for a 327 million dollar project to widen and deepen the channel. This will allow for smoother transport through the ports, as well as increased capacity on ships. This is made even better because just 4 years ago, a ban on exporting crude oil was lifted which means Corpus Christi can increase its total exports.
Overall, I think that this is a great thing for Corpus Christi and Texas as a whole. This port expansion will allow for more exporting which will lead to more money coming into our local economy. It also creates competition which I believe could fuel us to expand our ports. Oil and energy in general are a huge part of our economy and if we can continue to grow that market, it will help us drastically. Corpus Christi has been growing exponentially since the lift of the ban of crude oil and with projects like these, it will continue to grow. They are building more storage for oil and they are altering bridges to accommodate for incoming ships. Some believe that Corpus will become the benchmark for global prices on crude oil and think that that will prove beneficial for our state.
