Discrimination Against Native Americans

The article I read talks about the lack of knowledge Americans have on Native Americans. A survey mentioned in the article, which came out last year, said that 40% of Americans even knew Natives still existed. The survey was completed in hopes of finding out what Americans think of Natives today and how they should be treated. Most would agree that Native Americans aren't being represented as much as they should, in more places than others; in a modern American school for example. Some of the information they found from the survey showed that more than half are aware that the U.S. committed genocide against the Natives however only 36% thought they experience discrimination. The survey also found that bias against Natives depended on the region, the greatest bias were from people who lived closest to the reservations.
I thought the article was pretty interesting and the information given definitely seems important. While looking for an article to write about, there seemed to have been a lot of specific cases that had to do with racial discrimination against Native Americans. Personally, I don't see much about what's going on with them too much in the news unless it has to do with an issue that involves the President. Other than that, I don't think a lot of the issues they face are being represented or shown very well by the press as the survey shows. Despite Native Americans living in the U.S. the longest, even today, not much is known about them.
