Final blog: 100% recyclable plastics!

I chose to read this article and talk about it for our final blog for two reasons. 1: I did my challenge project on the topic of plastic pollution, and 2: this is an issue that is affecting EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH.

Plastic Pollution is an issue that really needs to be dealt with and we may have a way to fix this issue. There recently was a discovery that showed we may have found a way to fully recycle plastic products, which we have never been able to do in the past. Most plastic products are made in ways that cant be recycled so while you may be tossing it into the green bin, there's a chance it's not making a change. In the article, they discussed being able to break down the product on a molecular level that the material can be reused. "Recovered monomers can be re-manufactured into the same polymer formulation, without loss of performance, as well as other polymer formulations with differentiated properties. The ease with which poly(diketoenamine)s can be manufactured, used, recycled and re-used—without losing value—points to new directions in designing sustainable polymers with minimal environmental impact." So basically this newly developed plastic will be able to be reverted to its original state, they will do this by soaking it in an acid bath.

Finally, I just want to say that the best way to help our planet is to limit the number of plastics you use. Like I said most plastic bottles, utensils, etc. can't actually be recycled fully so by cutting down on the number you use, you're helping the planet a lot.
