Final Blog
For the final blog, I read the article about the recent raids done on Central American migrants. In the article, it talks about the biggest surprise raid done ever. Hundreds of migrants were traversing across the country, in what has said to been the peak of migrations for migrants. 371 Men, Woman, and Children were captured. Now, the article also talks about Alex Mensing, a member of the nonprofit group called Pueblo Sin Fronteras. He was the leader of a similar migration last year, but he was not part of this one this year. But with recent deportations, he feared that if he were to make it, he would get sent back. Not only, but also along with the caravans raid in 2014, in 2017, there was also a raid on the freight trains called the “Beast”. “They want to kill us in our country,” a crying woman said as agents and police forced her into a van. Many of the people got emotional and were very afraid of what was going to happen next. Many different reports also say that the men were getting very aggressive, and would not care about their children. As mentioned in the article, this raised many questions on what was going to happen next for illegal immigrants. If the biggest raid on the caravanas happened during the migration period, what will happen next. One thing the article could not answer. For the connection with IHSS, I feel the talk we had about immigration, and simply migration have influence my view on this article. Especially now that we are talking about civil rights, we can tie the fact that the people were treated like animals, without care or mercy.
