We're breathing in plastic
Okay, it's not as dangerous as it sounds, it's just tiny little plastic particles, but that still sounds overly intimidating. Microplastics, we hate em, they're dangerous and they suck, that's well known. They're small particles of plastic that are caused through erosion of the plastic into the atmosphere, they're a big enough issue to be called an atmospheric and oceanic pollutant now. When they studied the microplastics in the air they noticed that they were indeed quite small, ranging from 300-40 microns. But those are just the visible ones. Over 50% of the microplastic particles are less than 25 microns wide. There are an estimated 15-51 trillion particles floating on the ocean's surface, that's a lot of particles. If we take the average length of them and stacked them all together like a huge jigsaw puzzle we get 1,462,500,000 square meters of plastic, and that's only using the minimum possible amount of particles, that's almost as much as the entire size of Alaska, which is 1,717,940,000 square meters. That's a lot of square meters. Either way, this issue is one that lies directly under our noses for quite a while, and plastic in and of itself is causing a good portion of the environmental damage, especially when it comes to garbage.
