Social Norms
Social norms are what people’s beliefs, actions, and attitudes are expected to be. The social norms are what is considered appropriate or inappropriate for people’s behavior. If you do not follow social norms you may be seen as an outcast, you may have few friends, or a lack of social development. People are influenced in different ways by social norms. Social norms change the way people think and act. Some people are affected more than others by social norms. Different groups of people have different norms. An example of a social norm in a school might be to get to class on time because that is what most of the students do so that is what everyone would be expected to do. People respond with approval when others follow the norms well and they don’t approve when others don’t follow the norms. Overall people are greatly affected by the norms and act and live there life based on the norms.
