The Theory of Mind and Narrative

The article I read talks about the effects (mostly negative) of reading narratives, especially the ones about history. The article has an interview and talks about the theory of mind, and how many narratives are merely speculations and guesses. I think the article makes some great points about how some people may rely too heavily on these narratives to be their history teacher, but I disagree because I think it is extremely important for people to read and express there own opinions. Simple writing or thinking about narratives is expanding creativity, you are thinking about ideas, mostly based off of facts. More and more commonly people are not reading and reading is extremely important, especially for children in the development of their brain. Being able to express creativity in different ways is very important. The way this article is written, seems biased against the readings of narratives, especially from the perspective of the man being interviewed, although I think there are many positive effects of reading these narratives and understanding the many different perspectives on history and its outcomes.
I think it is very relevant to learn about history and the course of events that shaped the world we live in today, and I think reading sources that are not speculation are important to that, however I also feel guessing off of facts or information is a good way to learn about motives and also encourage people to read more in a world where the amount of people reading is decreasing. Narratives are also known to provide a start for people getting interested in a topic. Researching history is not for everyone, but reading a narrative that gives an interesting perspective on a historical event can be a way to get people to learn more about it. Although there were many points in the article I did not agree with about negative effects of reading narrative articles, I think it brings a great point about how we don't even realize it, but we believe to take these speculations as truths, and we really believe them. Although sometimes it is difficult for us to be able to understand history as it is written, or to be able to find the information we want or are interested in, it is important for us to be able to understand history, not just from the viewpoint of a narrative. We need to be able to learn more than speculations in order to be able to learn about the series of events that shaped the world and societies we have today and to be able to learn more about what causes them to shape our societies.
