Writing Utensils
For my shared economy, I have thought up of something very simple yet very complex. Let's say we're dealing with a small environment, like our school. Our base currency could be writing utensils. There would be three main currencies, a pencil, a mechanical pencil, and a pen. Assuming the pen is the most valuable, we can start adding values to things such as paper, erasers, and very important food. We would be able to trade writing utensils, which can be used for completing assignments or more trading, with food, which can either be eaten or traded even further. The writing utensils will never run short since there is a steady flow of them into the classroom and there will never be too many as the pencils will be either lost or will wear down to the point of no use. However there is an exploit to this, one may be able to bring a lot of pencils to school, which would seriously cause a disruption, and to this, I add a higher authority. This higher authority would be in charge of keeping the value of writing utensils to an agreeable average, not too high or too low. This higher authority must not be corrupt in their work, so they must not have absolute power over the economy.
