Cidette Rice Mr.Roddy IHSS March 6th, 2019 My Notice     If I had a business that was based on sharing economy, I would dedicate it to students who don’t want to go to school, but still want notes and updates from class. I would call it ‘My Notice’ (the people who are hired are called notices). This business would be aimed at both high schoolers and college students, but would be easier for college students to achieve, seeing their schedules. Say that you know you’re going to be absent from class for a day or two, or you get sick. You have no one there to take notes for you for ALL your class periods, and you only have one or two reliable friends in each class. What if you could hire a person, who is familiar with the campus, (so either a fellow student with an off day or a former student) to take notes for you for all your classes? They would follow your class schedule for that day, and would carry a badge of authorization saying ‘Yes, I am a Notice’ and a s...

Sharing Economy

Have you ever wanted to learn something that no one could teach? Or do you have a skill that you think people would like to learn? This sharing economy could benefit both learners and teachers. On this platform for sharing, people will be able to upload tutorials and publish articles about tips on how to improve certain skills. Learners will be able to choose from a wide variety of categories and teachers with different styles of teaching. They should also be able to communicate with the teachers in order to ask for help and criticism or rate how helpful the tutorial was. For example, if you wanted to learn to paint there could be multiple people teaching different techniques, so learners have the opportunity to choose. If they are confused about certain concepts, they can ask the teacher for advice or look for articles with extra tips. There are lots of resources that can aid your improvement. If someone also wanted to teach, they could also choose to upload their own videos and write...

Sharing Economy

Fabrício Guerra Mr. Roddy IHSS 6 March 2019 Writing Utensils     For my shared economy, I have thought up of something very simple yet very complex. Let's say we're dealing with a small environment, like our school. Our base currency could be writing utensils. There would be three main currencies, a pencil, a mechanical pencil, and a pen. Assuming the pen is the most valuable, we can start adding values to things such as paper, erasers, and very important food. We would be able to trade writing utensils, which can be used for completing assignments or more trading, with food, which can either be eaten or traded even further. The writing utensils will never run short since there is a steady flow of them into the classroom and there will never be too many as the pencils will be either lost or will wear down to the point of no use. However there is an exploit to this, one may be able to bring a lot of pencils to school, which would seriously cause a disruption, and to...

My Sharing Economy "Non Bulk, Bulk Prices"

My idea for a sharing economy is a place where you can sign up to buy food. In our economy you can either buy food cheaply in bulk or small quantities at a much higher price.  With this service you can sign up in advance to share the price and the product of a bulk good with a stranger. The problem with buying bulk yourself is that often the food goes bad before you eat it. With this system you can get the low prices with the small amount. The system would charge a flat rate when you picked up food to make it more worth it to get many things at once. Allow sharing from one person to many different people on the same trip. The purpose of this is to let consumers get better deals on products without having to have too much food. This system would allow someone making pasta that only needs one tomato split with 9 other people for the tomatoes with a pack of ten and with 5 different people on a pack of onions. I think this idea could work in big cities where there are always people w...

Shared Economy

Izabella Curtis Mr. Roddy IHSS 5 March 2019 Trading Art Supplies! For my Shared Economy I would want to share art supplies. As most artist in society, they are struggling with money and art supplies are NOT cheap. So, for my economy I would create an app where you can sell/rent/trade art supplies. Markers, paints, fancy pens all of it! It can also be a place where artist can get tips from other artist. Some art supplies people have, use once, then they are stuck with it so my app will make it so you can sell used art supplies or trade. Like if this shade of pink wasn't the shade you wanted you could trade with someone who has the color you wanted. For renting you could rent out your material for a reasonable price with an a deposit. For example you could rent out an easel for a $10 deposit and rent it out for $5 dollars a night. That would be my shared economy.

Sharing Economy - Broccoli!!!

Charlie McGill Mr. Roddy IHSS 3.6.19 My Sharing Economy My dream would be to have a sharing economy surrounding food. I think that everyone should learn how to cook and not enough people these days know, but if there was an established sharing economy surrounding food, people would learn how to cook so they could trade food for delicious homemade cooking. My base currency would have to be broccoli, with other items of food such as chicken, bread, and cake being worth a little more, like 25 peices of broccoli. The reason I choose this is because anyone can eat broccoli, no matter your food allergy, way of life (vegetarianism, veganism), or class. People can work to get broccoli by growing it, using seeds that can be obtained through broccoli itself or through a transaction. Think of buying broccoli seeds, or really any seeds, as an investment. Seeds could give me a de-facto stock market as well, people could invest in one seed that is grown in bulk by a company and get some...

sharing economy

If I were to start my own version of a shared economy it would most likely be through an app. Something I feel that can be irritating at times is waiting in line. There are times even with a reservation you are forced to wait a short period of time. My app would be a place for someone to list a restaurant, a time in which they would like a table and for how many people. It would be set up in a way where you make a time and place on one end and someone could volunteer to complete it on the other end. Each person needing a task completed would set a price of their own and if someone on the other end found it a fair price they would complete it for the amount asked. If one person listed the service for an amount that was considered unfair or too low it would most likely not get completed, and they would not be able to to have someone wait on them unless they bumped up the price. I think this would be an interesting idea of an economy because it would be run by those completing tasks. ...

Sharing Economy Idea - Catherine Hudson

Have you ever had the impulse to do something exciting, be adventurous, such as traveling the world by sailboat! Unfortunately the cost does not often make this as easy as the thought may seem and by the time you go through the tedious procedures of finding, buying and insuring a sailboat, your initial idea may not even seem so great anymore but your still stuck with a brand new boat that you never use but continue to pay for maintenance. My sharing economy idea would be to create an app that allows people to rent already-insured and no-need-for-maintenance sailboats on demand with an approved sailor for those without a license! This would facilitate the needs of those who just want to try out sailing but don’t have the money for a nice boat or want to deal with the long-term commitments of owning a big boat. This app would function similarly to Airbnb. Some people could loan out their boats for money, others could rent the boats, saving a lot of money by not buying an expensive boat a...

Sharing Economy

Abigail Lynn Mr. Roddy IHSS 7, March 2019 Sharing Economy- Art Supplies My sharing economy would revolve around art supplies such as markers, pens, erasers, paper, etc. Many art supplies are purchased for one time use or aren’t utilized completely. Having a way to share could hopefully work to lessen art supply waste. This could be done through an app or website where you can trade out art supplies to others and receive any tools you need. For example, oftentimes people will purchase drawing notebooks only to use less than half of the pages. As long as the rest of the pages were still usable, the notebook could be traded out to others as long as all of the used pages are removed. Same would go for pens, paint, erasers, etc. This would be especially useful for people working on one-time projects. This could of course be utilized by anyone whether they are an artist or simply need a supply such as a highlighter for school. I think this would be an effective way to create a sharing...

My Sharing Economy -Casey Carter

For my sharing economy, I had the idea of a site that allows people to rent painted miniatures for tabletop games such as Warhammer in exchange for money. Painting miniatures on your own is a often long and tedious process, especially if you have a large amount of unpainted ones that you need to paint for a competitive army. My idea would be that people could rent out their painted models to people who are in need of them to play games. People who have models could list their models on the website with a price for renting them, and then people who would like those models could rent them out. The better the models are painted, the more expensive the models would be to paint. I think it would function similar to websites like Craigslist with the renter and client organizing the pickup and return of the models. There would also need to be something for renters to be able to rate clients, so that clients can't abuse the models or steal them, because they would end up getting a bad rati...

Your Sharing Economy - 3D Printing

Ashwin Dev Mr. Roddy IHSS 5 March 2019 Shared Access to 3D Printers Although this idea wouldn't last long as 3D printers are getting more and more accessible to people, I still think that this would be a good idea as long as prices of 3D printers are high or if you just want to use a printer once. People could potentially have easy access to having whatever they want printed out and maybe even sent to them. It would probably easiest to start something like this on an app and have 3D printer requests sent as notifications to people who actually have their own 3D printer. There are some companies that 3D print something and then ship it to you, having shared access to a 3D printer would remove the cost of shipping since whoever requested the print would have to pick it up. Prices regarding the use of the printer would vary due to how good it is. If someone isn't able to get the object printed on time then they'd have to pay some type of fee. That could also go the othe...

My Sharing Economy - Music

After much thinking, I decided that my sharing economy would be based off of music.  It would encompass all things about music, including tangible and intangible items such as, digital music, instruments, music suggestions, etc. One aspect that would be challenging would be what value each item would hold. Everybody has different music tastes and it's something very personal and unique to each and every person, so it would be hard to really put a set value on each individual item that has to deal with music. Music also means something differently to every single individual person, so if there was a market, it would have to be able to establish itself on the fact that there are going to be different people who have different values for each type of music, so there will probably have to be many currency exchanges, as every person will have a different value for their tangible or intangible music. I also think that since each person have a different taste in music, there could be a w...

My Sharing Economy: Tyler H.

Tyler Holland Mr. Roddy IHSS 6 March 2019 My Sharing Economy For my economy, I tried to choose something that everyone would be interested in at some point or another. Renting out Headphones and Computer Chargers. I think that this would be a very good economy simply due to the amount of times myself or someone else has been asked/asks for a pair of headphones or for a charger. I think that this economy would thrive because it is easy to keep track of, and it is also something that everyone needs. In this school you pretty much always need to have a charged computer and sometimes people prefer to have personalized settings and such which is why they prefer personal computers to school computers. If your computer is dead, you need to charge it and that's when you could come to me to rent a charger. its the same thing with headphones, people are often listening to music, looking around from where I am right now, I see 10 out of 15 people wearing headphones. If I see 67% of p...

My Sharing Economy-Ren

After briefly discussing the exchange of services in small communities in class, I started to think about how we could create a shared economy by having people in communities share services such as power washing or pet sitting and tools or equipment. I would imagine being able to exchange services for goods, services for services or goods for goods. It would basically be a place where neighbors can reach out to other people in their neighborhood. It would be kind of similar to nextdoor.com only it would have the ability to set what could be seen as trade deals. I would try and get some way to verify each agreement but not have it be completely formal. You would start off with posting a request for whatever service or good that you need and also list certain services on your profile that you would be willing to help with. This way, someone can match up their services listed to a post requesting the specific service. I also think it would be useful to have local businesses or contrac...

My Sharing Economy - JM

John Mazziotti March 5th, 2019 IHSS Mr. Roddy IHSS Blog: Your Sharing Economy My sharing economy would be based on a “Capitalist and Democratic” economy, much like the United States is today. I would promote welfare for those who would be not able to financially support themselves. I would also encourage equal and fair trade between all countries of the world. Something that I would also put in effect would be; how business could be private or public, much like it is today. My economy would also have the ability to provide jobs, and support a growing GDP. In my economy, I would also provide financial support (not welfare) towards hospitals, which would help individuals who can not afford the hospital bills. I would make sure that supply and demand of a resource are at a steady median. This would make them not go above or below each other, which would make the average person be content. My economy would keep taxes at a steady amount, which the average citizen can afford, no ...

Sharing Economy- Luke

Luke Kirchner       After much thinking, I have realized that sharing economies can be created from almost anything. I decided to make create something about sharing home decor. This would include things like paintings, ornaments and other small things to decorate your house. One challenging thing that would need to be sorted out, would be the value of the objects. Art is very subjective and can be valued very differently by other people. The market would have to establish it self to truly assign a price to different pieces. This would be a great way to make some money off of pieces of art that usually aren't seen and this would allow the renter to spruce up their house.       An app would be used to connect people and would ask for necessary information. This would probably be more localized, so people could drive over and pick up, or vice-versa. Some sort of insurance/waiver would also have to be part of the process, to ensure the rente...

Sharing Economy: writing utensils

At our school, Id like to start a sharing economy of school supplies. For example, nearly everyone loses their pens and pencils 2 weeks into school. But, those who are able to keep them intact, should trade them out for other things they like better. For example, the "penny" or "spare change" would be the regular old wood pencil. The next tier would be the crappy cheap mechanical pencils. The next tier would be the fancy mechanical pencil. For pens, same thing applies. People can trade a fancy pencil for 2 crappy pencils for example. But, if no one has any pencils or pens and wants one, other supplies can come into play, like paper clips, paper, sticky notes, etc

Give and Return: Economic Idea

Adrian Perez My sharing economy will revolve around the idea of giving and returning. So how it will basically work is there will be one form of acquiring money. You, the giver, will give any thing you don't want to this main system "store" like area. They in return, will give you money. It is very similar to many of the store system in today's world, but my store will be one main one. It will be the main source of the money we will make. Now, in my mind there will be a section for free things that people donated to help out. The section will be for the people who may not have any money to be able to pay the money, the homeless. The store would be all over the world but there would be one main one. Like, many of the donations stores today, there would be trucks that come by for the donations that people will give out. I feel, in my mind this is the best option for a sharing economy. Every will be happy, and everyone will be able to experience the same thing. Instea...

My Sharing Economy - Pet Sharing

Brooks Farish IHSS 10 Pet Sharing Who doesn't like a dog to sleep with when you're lonely? Although I do know people who hate having to take their dogs on a walk or clean a cat litterbox. This is where my pet sharing economy comes in to play. This would probably be in the form of an app. Let's say you wanna hang out with a super cute and fun pomeranian. But of course you don't want to have to undesirable part of owning a pet, you just want the fun part of having a pet. When you get the animal of your choice it would be walked and clean. This part of the service is built into the payment of the app handled by the pet sharing workers. There is a downside to sharing just like with any sharing program. You miss out on the more long connection to the pet. But nothing would be ruining your day as a dirty cat litterbox would. When it comes to the payment side of the app you would just be paying with dollars and not some made up currency. To conclude I believe that this ...

Selling Gently Used Pet Supplies: a Sharing Economy - Sarah Seeliger

Selling Gently Used Pet Supplies The sharing economy I would like to start is selling gently used pet supplies like ped beds, collars, toys, leashes, crates, etc. Pet supplies can be expensive, and some poeple with pets can't afford much more than pet food and vet care, both of which are expensive. If a sharing economy for gently used pet supplies, excluding food, existed, then people could buy pet supplies that is possibly better than what they have for less money.  My company would be online, and it would be run similarly to Etsy. This means that if someone wants to sell their pet supplies, they have to make an account and post pictures of their things along with the price and a description of the product. There would be rules including the following: no selling food, selling things with holes, rips, tears, or fringe is prohibited, and things that are sold have to be washed before they are delivered to the customers. On  my website, people will be able to review each ...

Sharing Economy

My idea for a shared economy would be for jewelry shops to rent out jewelry. A lot of times, people have a special event they need to go to but don’t want to spend a lot of money on dressing up for the event. A big portion of that money is spent on jewelry that most likely won’t be worn on a daily basis. The idea is that jewelry shops would rent out pieces of jewelry for a short period of time with a contract to make sure nothing gets damaged or replaced for a fake. This is a possible issue that the business would run into so it might help to look at the person’s background and their credit score to see how reliable they are in being responsible for the jewelry and if they will pay the renting fee. The person who is renting out the jewelry could also give a piece of their jewelry to the shop as a kind of insurance and the shop can possibly rent out that piece as well and a majority of the money made would go to the owner of the jewelry. This way, the renter is payin...

A Shared Vacation

Justin Patera Mr. Roddy IHSS March 5th, 2019 Shared Economy - A Shared Vacation For my shared economy idea I thought about the necessity of vacation for working families, couples, ect. My idea would essentially be a shared Airbnb which would reduce the cost of the original vacation. Two or more families could pick a location (L.A. for example) where they could find a semi large house that they would be able to rent but stay in together. In the end, this makes vacations that much cheaper as the bill is split so to speak. In doing so families not only have that much more to spend (money wise) in the city or place they chose to visit but the frequency in which said family takes a vacation may become more probable. The families wouldn’t be required to spend time with each other they simply just sleep under the same roof for x number of nights. This would also be primarily for larger groups of people so that the overall cost would be cheaper. As for solo travelers, this wouldn’t...

The Best Sharing Economy :)

My sharing economy is going to be an app where owners of music studios list up their studios with available times and musicians in need of a studio, can rent out the studio. Studios are often very difficult to find, and it takes time to learn about available times. This app would make it so that the musician in need of studio time could see available days and hours as well as where the studio is located. The people that list their studios up would be able to advertise key features such as a very high quality microphone or something of that sorts. Having an app for this would have many benefits for both parties. If the app got big enough, that would mean that there would be a lot competition, especially in bigger cities. Competition would likely lead to lower prices which would be extremely beneficial for the musicians. Studios putting their key features would also add somewhat of a tiered system. There would be the higher-end studios which charge more and the lower-tier studios wh...

Sustainable Purchases

Eleanor Carter Learning about a sharing economy has been an interesting glimpse into what our economy could look like in the future. With our ever-changing status in the world, there are many different directions that our economy could take. Regarding a sharing economy, it is one of the most user friendly ways in which we could progress. Some of these have already been put into place. We have services like Uber, Left, Depot, and Ebay to cater to an evolving sharing economy. To me, it is an important way to help with the manufacturing of sustainable and ethically sourced products. As we evolve, I think it is important for us to take a look at where our products are coming from and who is making them. Under what conditions? What are they paid? What materials are put into everyday product and how are they sourced. My part to a sharing economy would make it accessible to know this information. We have certain apps like this today, such as an app you can download onto your phone to scan a...

Sharing Economy - Josey

Instrument Trading As many people may know, buying and taking care of instruments is not an easy task. With my company there will be an instrument trading system so people can try out any type of instrument they could imagine by renting it from someone else using the app. You could also use the swap instrument feature where you and someone else swap instruments from a period of 1 week so as long as both people want to swap instruments for. This would make learning out and using different instruments much more affordable and more popular for people. In order to participate you would have to have undergone a background check to ensure everything runs more smoothly with the trading, as well as having staff that would make sure the trades worked. The staff would also be there so people have help with trades and rentals if necessary. This is a way for people to get to try out all different sorts of instruments to see what they want to learn to play as well as people making money off of in...

Your Sharing Economy: Shirt Swap

Henry Quillin Mr. Roddy IHSS 4 March 19 My Business Idea: Shirt Swap My business idea will be revolutionary to the rentable clothing market. It is called “Shirt Swap”. Shirt swap will be a website and an app where clothing will be traded, rented or sold. Do you have a very expensive tux that you won't be needing for a while, that is just sitting in your closet taking up space? Well guess what, with Shirt Swap you can rent that expensive good for nothing tux to someone in your area who needs that tux for a wedding or something. But Shirt Swap is not only for renting nice clothing, but any clothing! If you are going on a big hiking trip in Greenland, you can rent a nice parka and hiking boots without having to spend a fortune. But Shirt Swap is not only a platform for renting, but you can also trade, buy, and sell clothing. If you don't need that leather jacket that you grew out of four years ago, but you need clothes for you new baby, then with shirt swap you can find so...

Sharing Economy Idea

My sharing economy idea involves creating a solution for our current parking limitations at the high school. I would run it by, at the beginning of each week, having high school students sign up to reserve a parking slot that would belong to them for that week. There will be six slots available for reservation. Students would take advantage of this opportunity because they wouldn't have to arrive at school at the crack of dawn every morning in order to get a parking spot on campus. However, there's a catch, transforming the solution to a sharing economy that also benefits our community. It involves what highschoolers love the most...free food. If you are one of the six highschoolers that signed up to reserve a parking slot that week, you are responsible for bringing food for 15 students (one-sixth of the class). You don't have to bring a full-on meal; ideas include donuts, candy, homemade goods, treats etc. This idea emerged because, recently in the Post Oak Gala, a rese...

My Sharing Economy Idea

Neighborhood Bonding  For this sharing economy it would involve a neighborhood coming together and create a system where everybody can drive each others cars lives in each others house and use each others things. But this would come at a price. There would have to be a system put in place to make sure that people have paid to use their neighbors belongings. The system that I am thinking of would be an app similar to slack combined with pay-pal, and for those of you who do not know slack is communication app that is used in major businesses all the time. With this way of communicating people will be pay and let the people know what they are paying to use. This Economy will also need the approval of the neighborhood. So as not to confuse people when they see Jim driving Marie's convertible. Also new members of the neighborhood will not just be able to hop in the economy, they will have to show the other people that they are trust worthy to use this amazing system. I would also s...

My Peer to Peer Economy Idea - Asher

Asher Forman Mr. Roddy IHSS 2 March 2019 "Sell Your Garden" The peer to peer business that I am going to invent is called “Sell Your Garden.” This business is going to be on an app where garden owners can put their location and list the items that they want to sell. Since this is only for fresh produce, people will sell vegetables, fruits, and even products made from bees. Essentially, all natural products that come out of one’s garden (or hive). If someone wanted some fresh produce and didn’t want to go to a faraway farmer’s market, they could look on this app for someone in the neighborhood that might be selling fresh produce. Once they find someone on this app that is near them and is selling the produce that they want, this person will then message the other person who is selling the produce that he/she is going to stop by and what fruits or vegetables they want. When he/she arrives at this house, the person with the garden will go get these items and then he/she wi...

Pegasus Natural Vacations: Great business idea

This business is a nonprofit business called Pegasus Natural Vacations. This company builds small cottages and tents in locations surrounded by different landscapes of nature. There will be no cell service but there will be many different activities that tourists could do. The goal of this company is to get people more in touch with nature, therefore, becoming aware of what humans are doing to damage it. With many different locations, some are more expensive than others. For example, if it were to be on an island then the price would be higher if it were in a forest. All the profit from the tourists will be used to repair anything needed in the different locations then the rest are donated to different nonprofit organizations trying to save endangered habitats and species.  How I would run it is through different teams of about 50 people assigned to different locations with training in the different jobs around the "resort". The resorts are only able to hold up to 30 people p...
